Later Mames I've been playing with Mame since it's inception i 1997 and after keeping in touch with all the updates and patiently updating roms I finally gave up a few years ago after becoming jaded with the effort involved all the more so since some of the earlier game became unplayable in later versions and most of the new ones required ninja machines to run.
I did however get a 6 DVD pack of a version little under a year old from a kind mate and decided to stick it on just to see how it played. I have to say given my processor is about 5 years old I never expected much but was both delighted and surprised to find that most of the games I've tried work flawlessly.
Being able to boot up new classics such as 'Point Blank' and 'Area 51' is a joy.

Agreed, updating can become tiresome... I have a full .102 set here and am still discovering new games I haven't played before.
Most recent find was Nitro Ball, a sort of cross between a pinball game and Smash TV!

I know what ya mean . . .I've got a love/hate relationship with MAME. I love the idea of playing the ACTUAL arcade games when, a good few years ago, I would cut out every mag picture and article because there wasn't much documented about arcade games . . .let alone have the facility to play 'em.
On the downside, the monthly updating becomes a fecking chore to be sure. Having said that, i still do it religiously . . .but those bloody artwork files that keep changing every sodding month.
Thank gawd for Clrmamepro and the dats . . .

I decided a while back that playing catch up just isn't worth it.
All the games I've ever wanted to play (and many I'd never played/heard of) work flawlessly in my version of MAME, so I'm a happy bunny. I can live it as it is. BTW I'm using MAME32 1.03 (Jan 2006).
