Use the force, Andrew... Had great fun at the GameCity event in Nottingham this weekend - they had Star Wars (1983) and Star Wars Arcade cabinets on free play.
Did my usual on the old vector game - got past wave 1 then repeatedly missed the exhaust port on level 2.
Got through the newer game on three continues - managed to beat both Vader and Boba Fett in the special stages.

Hi merman . . .never heard of that event, perhaps you can post a few more details.
Also I notice you live on the coast . . .any decent arcades left in Skeggy . . .??

If by decent you mean containing retro games, there's hardly any left... there are a couple of decent older racing games around, but that's about it. Oh and an old Electrocoin Street Fighter II, but haven't seen that working...
As for GameCity...
It was on last week from Thursday to Sunday.
Saturday I went to the talk by Keita Takahashi and saw the preview of his next game Nobi Nobi Boy... and he signed my Katamari Damacy cover. :D
Saturday night there was a live gig from Press Play on Tape, and a free bar for invited guests (like me) :D
Sunday I got the chance to meet ALEXEY PAJITNOV, creator of Tetris and got his autograph. :D
Great weekend.

Cool, have found the Star Wars Arcade machine here in Skeggy, in the pier arcade. There's also a Podracer machine, but that wasn't working...
But even better, that same arcade has got Mario Kart! Woot!

Can't be all bad then, matey . . .blimey, Mario Kart ?? I was amazed to see that at the Trocadero
By Pod Racer, d'ya mean an arcade version of that old PC game Pod or Pod Gold or summat ??
You're a darn sight more fortunate than me. The only thing worth going to Whitley Bay for was one of my fave racers - Scud Race . . .
. . .but now the bastard's gone

It's Star Wars Podracer, same as the PS1/PC game...

Ah yes . . .I remember that. Quite enjoyed it at the time - Dreamcast version was first, I think. Lot of pop-up, though, as I recall.
