What WasThe Best Side Scrolling Shooter
I'd like to see a debate over which side-scrolling shooter has held up the best. Graphics, originality, intensity, are all factors that should sway the vote I am placing my vote on Parodius, a Super Famicom gem from Konami released in 92. A very humour filled, colourful game of medium challenge that used the Gradius platform. Though not originally available in North America, it is quite easy to obtain for the emu's. A game that hasn't ever lost it's unique charm and chuckles. I've listed 9 games, some were franchises that had sequels, so they will likely do well. Hope some shooter fans are around.

I have to to for R-Type, I recently bought the PCB and the memories of playing it back in the 80's are so strong I love the damned thing. R-Type II is very good also. Mind, most of the games in your list are very good. I particularly like Sexy Parodius too (again on PCB).

teehee raiden....raiden was an up the way shooter dooter maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanOuch!! In my haste to make my deadline..... Raiden snuck past my editorial content detector. Of course I can't edit the poll to remove it, otherwise while editing, Parodius might suddenly gain a few more votes. I guess that stunning game Arrow Flash should have Raiden's spot, eh subzero.

Had to go for Gradius because it was so innovative at the time of it's release and . . .is it me, or is it still a bloody hard game :?: If I was going to replace Raiden, I'd go for Gate of Thunder on PC Engine CD . . . . . .but that's cheating because a CD game isn't technically 16 bit . . .is it ??

It could be argued that Super CD games are only 8 Bit. Games don't come much tougher than the mighty R-Type II. I just managed to complete my R-Type collection with R-Type, R-Type II, R-Type Leo and even R-Type III. Best horizontal shooters evah, and even Leo is fantastic.

R-Type is the game that comes up time and time again -how many of you have tried X-multiply- also by Irem- its a brilliant shooter, available on MAME or on the PS1 or a Sega Saturn if you can track it down.- Well worth it! -Also Gradius Gaiden -available on PS1 (import) -or on the PSP collction of Gradius Games- its the highpoint of the Gradius games to me- better than Gradius V. I think tho that the PS1 was 32bit -so that kinda nullifies it from this thread- but its a great side scroller

-Also Gradius Gaiden -available on PS1 (import) That's one of the best Gradius games on ANY console . . .but there was no PAL conversion as I recall. Bloody typical, Europe gets shafted for good shooters AGAIN :!: :!:
